The Executive Director (ED) is accountable for the development and execution of scientific & medical affairs plans for their assigned Therapy Areas (TA).

They co-lead with the Global Director Scientific Affairs and the Scientific Medical and Research Teams to realize scientific value creation through responsive scientific leader interactions, a unified scientific / medical understanding and viewpoint, and aligned scientific exchange execution.

They lead a team of TA dedicated global and regional directors. The ED engages with global scientific leaders and key decision makers.

The ED partners with Product Development Team leaders and Global Brand leaders. They provide a solid understanding of how countries’ medical systems and standards of care have to change to accept new innovation, how to introduce the new innovation and how to implement and maintain its use.

They lead the team in consolidating actionable medical insights from countries and regions to inform company decisions. They collaborate with the Center of Real-

World Evidence (CORE), Policy and Market Access.

The position can be located at any of our EU MSD offices or located remotely within the EU.

Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement :

  • MD, specialization in Cardiology (Heart Failure preferred), recognized scientific expertise
  • Required :

  • 10+ years experience in Medical Affairs or Clinical Development
  • Strong prioritization and decision-making skills with the ability to understand how decisions fit into the broader context of corporate strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, mentor, manage and provide clear, unambiguous expectations and priorities for the teams
  • In a matrix environment, able to effectively collaborate with and influence partners across divisions
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, communication (written as well as oral), in addition to results oriented project management skills
  • Preferred :

  • Five+ years medical affairs leadership or clinical development experience with proven track record of contribution to medical or clinical development strategies
  • Customer expertise especially scientific leadership and other key stakeholders (payers, public groups, government officials, medical professional organizations) in the assigned therapeutic area
  • Proven ability to effectively influence company life cycle management, and data generation
  • Understanding of resourcing and budgeting
