The Position

Solution Integration and Services (SIS) is the business area at Roche Diagnostics that enables the physical and virtual integration of all kinds of diagnostic testing from large lab systems to hand-

held mobile devices for hospitals, laboratories and healthcare practitioners, nurses and patients. These solutions help healthcare leaders overcome the many challenges in today's healthcare environment.

While these challenges vary from country to country, they arise from diverse trends such as aging populations, cost pressure on healthcare systems, and increasing demand for smarter, more efficient and effective diagnostic solutions and services.

Innovation and Research (I&R) is a newly set up organisation, with the aim to expand our capability, across all dimensions of innovation, technology, user needs and market viability.

While we will focus to innovate our current portfolio, our goal is to equally focus on strategic innovation acceleration for all SIS, in order to create new products, services and solutions.

This includes uncovering new markets, new value propositions and new capabilities that will be needed in the future. This is not done in isolation, but in a highly collaborative way, with the rest of the Roche organisation, but also with vendors and external partners.

As a result, I&R sets the direction how innovation activities are run and managed in SIS as well as linked to the rest of Roche, in order to be ahead of the market with our products, services and solutions.

Besides driving innovation, formalize idea discovery and incubation from a customer portfolio perspective, we are accountable to continuously increase and advance our innovation capability and maturity for the whole of SIS.

As a result, we are looking for some new positions to complete our team to accomplish that mission.

As the Head of Innovation Management (and part of the I&R Leadership Team), your goal in life is challenging the status quo and making the world a better place to be.

You are aware that technology is a tool to a means to serve people, patients and society. You are a spokesperson and ambassador of the I&R program, communicating the innovation work done, creating awareness of and promoting the program as business-

critical by providing the storyline and the big picture.

In this exciting role, you are a key player in enabling and driving transformation while engaging the broader organization, advocating for new ways of working, shaping an innovation mindset, embracing future opportunities and most importantly delivering outcomes as part of the team that have an impact.

You have the maturity to actively establish and foster an innovation culture within SIS. As a result, being part of the I&R Leadership Team, you can wear multiple heads : you are accountable for your own success, but also of the success of I&R as a whole, while contributing to the success of SIS.

More specifically, you...

  • shape the innovation strategy to achieve short, medium and long-term goals, including its implementation and continuous monitoring (e.g I&R KPI’s)
  • transform with the rest of the organisation the strategy into a balanced portfolio of innovation initiatives (business, customer and technological innovation), using and fine-
  • tuning our innovation framework

  • have the overall responsibility for developing the I&R program roadmap in tight alignment with our LCT’s, Solution teams and Global Customer and Support team and in a second phase other BA’s
  • collaborate with the ideation leads, innovation delivery leads or any internal or external stakeholders, in establishing a pipeline of projects throughout the early innovation & development stages (inspire, ideate & test, implement)
  • facilitate the budget allocation to innovation initiatives at each prioritization stage gate that is in line with product and solution roadmap, while making sure that learnings are captured and shared for initiatives that are stopped
  • lead, coach and manage employees through the innovation process in an agile, and outcome focussed approach

    Ideally you will bring along a Master or PhD Degree in Innovation Management and / or any relevant background in engineering, economics, industrial design with a deep understanding of Innovation Management processes.

    A good understanding of entrepreneurial finance is a plus. You have 7+ years of experience in Innovation or product development in a top 5 innovation consulting firm or have built and sold your own company and are up to a new challenge in a corporate environment.

    Alternatively, you have a proven track record in a corporate environment of launching products successfully into the market.

    As a summary you speak the language of a true innovator, have a track record and are willing to make a difference for Innovation & Research, SIS and the rest of Roche, in Healthcare.

  • have strong leadership skills and are able to lead in a collaborative and engaging way with all parts of I&R and the rest of the Roche community and hence you actively contribute to building a high performing I&R organisation
  • understand the three dimensions of innovation and can show that you can lead teams that have launched innovative products, disrupt markets and gained market share
  • hence you understand Lifecycles of (healthcare) products, solutions and services, expertise in platform Lifecycle Management is a major plus
  • are able to communicate with different stakeholder types to drive an innovation strategy in a collaborative, engaging way inspiring and generating commitment
  • are able to increase the level of innovation maturity year after year in close collaboration with the Head of I&R and the I&R Leadership team
  • are able to introduce & transfer an innovation mindset, innovation capabilities and competencies into the wider organisation as well as live and represent the innovation culture
  • will understand the Roche ecosystem swiftly and will be able to disrupt the business
  • are a systems thinker with the ability to deal with complex systems (re-align parameters due to changed circumstances, devising new options, hunting for new paths, figuring out new partnerships, etc.)
  • are a customer-focused and outcome driven team player who demonstrates flexibility, and can effectively manage changing priorities
