Department Overview

The Global Risk Function is responsible of assessing, measuring, monitoring and managing the overall risk of Bain & Company.

The function serves as an umbrella for and cooperates with existing support and control functions (Legal, Security, HR, Finance etc.

but also manages certain risk domains themselves (e.g. commercial risk) or in support of respective Board Subcommittees (e.

g. Strategy, Risk). The function is led by the Head of Global Risk, who reports into the Risk Subcommittee of the Board.

This is an exciting time to apply the consulting skillset to help the development of this critically important function within Bain, gain a broader understanding of our corporate structure and our commercial activities and have direct impact on the work we do globally for years to come.

Position Summary

The tasks of the function will be fourfold :

  • Maintain and develop the risk framework and tools, such as country risk assessment, client and opportunity risk assessment tools, 3rd party risk assessment tool, risk register, whistle blowing function, surveillance function
  • Coordinate overall risk management with other control and support functions such as Finance, Legal, HR, Security, TSG, Marketing / Communications, Audit
  • Accreditation of offices and training of staff (online, desk and onsite)
  • Prepare reporting and present results to Global Operating Committee and Risk Subcommittee of the Board
  • While global in scale, there is a strong preference for EMEA based candidates (Munich, Frankfurt, Berlin, Zurich, London, Milan, Amsterdam, Paris, Warsaw) as the team is established.

    Some travel will be required for coordination purposes.


  • Support the CRO / Head of Global Risk in tactical as well as strategic tasks
  • Manage established Risk Function and team of risk analysts (tasks & milestones, recurring tasks, PD needs of analysts)
  • Support of Office Accreditation for all Bain offices
  • Conduct individual as well as general trainings (local / global) and develop them further
  • Oversee the preparation of material for regular Global Operating Committee presentations (monthly) as well as for the Risk Sub-Committee of the Board (4-6 times a year)
  • Prepare and run working groups with other Bain support and control functions (Marketing / Communications, Finance, Legal, Security, Technology, HR, Audit, etc.
  • Participants are usually the respective Global Head or direct report

  • Ensure maintenance and further development of Bain’s risk management toolkit (risk assessment tools, mitigation plans, crisis response plans, media surveillance, risk register, etc.)
  • Support crisis management in case needed
  • Qualifications

  • Manager at a Strategy Consulting firm / Senior Manager at Big 4 / Director level at international bank or similar level experience is essential
  • Strong client relationship management skills with top-level exposure to country / cluster leadership
  • Strong experience in Risk Management (methods, processes, org) with specific focus on non-financial and reputational risk
  • Public Sector or Education sector experience is an advantage
  • Experience in FS, Energy / Utilities, Transport, or Mining is highly valued
  • Comfort with analytical tools (Alteryx, Tableau, etc.)
