The Plant Breeding group at the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) in Frick, Switzerland, aims to advance sustainable crop production by exploiting microbiome-mediated disease resistance in breeding.
The offered position is linked to the ongoing project AGRIBIOME, in collaboration with the Molecular Plant Breeding group and the Sustainable Agroecosystems group at ETH Zurich and KWS AG.
To strengthen our plant breeding team in this cutting edge research topic we are seeking a highly motivated scientist specialized in plant-microbiome interactions at the earliest possible date.
Analysis of amplicon seq data (MiSeq and PacBio) of microbial communities derived from different pot and field trials
Identify microbial and plant genetic markers that regulate microbiome-mediated disease resistance
Develop strategies to exploit plant-microbiome interactions in holobiont-based breeding pro-grammes
Co-Supervise MSc and PhD students supporting molecular and microbiological work in lab and field experiments
Significantly advance this research field via high-quality publications, acquisition of research funds and impact-related contributions
Develop strategies for medium to long-term practical applications of microbiome research out-comes in plant breeding
PhD degree in Agricultural, Microbiology, Biological, or related Sciences
Proven track-record in the area plant-microbiome interactions
Experiences with taxonomic and / or functional profiling of microbial communities via NGS tech-nologies and biostatistics are mandatory
Competencies in experimental phytopathology, plant genetics including GWAS and genomic selec-tion are advantageous
Excellent organisation and communication skills, proficiency in written and oral English, high self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and as a team player in a multi-disciplinary, international research environment
