The Immunology Therapeutic Area is part of I2O, the Immunology, Infectious Diseases and Ophthalmology (I2O) Discovery and Translational Area.

Within I2O, the Early Development (ED) group is responsible for developing and executing the early development clinical strategies and plans (Phase 1 to 2) to deliver transformative therapies that provide meaningful improvement to patients.

We are currently looking for a creative, experienced, motivated and enthusiastic Medical Director to join our Immunology team.

The PositionAs a Medical Director in the Immunology ED group, you will lead early stage clinical projects through the design and implementation from proof-of-concept to Phase 2b trials to transform molecules into new medicines for patients with high unmet need gastroenterology diseases.

Further with your scientific and medical expertise you will provide strategic input to build and strengthen a portfolio from internal programs and external innovation efforts at different development stages.

  • Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following : Provides strategic impact and scientific insights into drug developmental projects across multiple stages of R&DDevelops and implements clinical strategies and plans that contribute to the advancementof specific pRED I2O projectsDesigns and manages global project strategies;
  • initiates and implements critical cross-functional strategic activities impacting drug developmentKey member in Early Development Project Teams driving projects from Discovery (Clinical Candidate Selection) to hand-over to late-stage Product Development (Phase 2b)Develops and owns the Clinical Development Plan and Target Product Profile in early developmentKey Early Development representative on discovery projectsChairs cross-functional project team and scientific meetingsRepresents ED Immunology function in project teams, within Discovery and Translational Area and in Governance interactionsPro-actively drives relevant stakeholder engagement globallyCo-responsible for scientific career development of clinical scientists within therapeutic areaIdeally also acts as key clinical scientific contact or medical monitor to address selected medical queriesRepresents Roche at congresses and to local and international authoritiesInteracts with regulatory authorities as needed or requestedManagerial Responsibilities : May work individually or as Matrix Lead or People LeadSupervises, mentors, motivates and provides successful career development for scientists and / or team membersIntegrates pRED Guiding Principles into everyday behaviors and activitiesScientific Innovation and InfluenceDirects, reviews publications, presentations of othersHas contributed to advancements in own field of scienceWho You AreYou’re someone who wants to influence your own development.

  • We are looking for these qualifications : Medical Doctorate (MD) degree and board certification or clinical experience in Gastroenterology requiredMore than 5 years experience in the pharmaceutical / biotech industryExcellent understanding of pre-clinical / clinical research, and clinical drug development in the field of gastrointestinal diseases is another strong assetInspiring role model;
  • able to attract and retain scientific talentRecognized by peers for scientific excellence (i.e., subject matter expertise across broad scientific area / multiple areas / clinical specialties;
