We are seeking a motivated PhD candidate for our experimental research project "Impact of sex hormones on regional and cellular atrial electrical function and sex differences in atrial fibrillation".
With this project, we aim at investigating the interplay between different hormones and cardiac (atrial) electrophysiology and their role for the clinically observed pronounced sex differences in the age of onset of atrial fibrillation (AF), AF prevalence, and AF recurrences with the ultimate goal to develop mechanisms-based improved, sex-specific therapeutic approaches.
The PhD candidate will perform cellular and whole heart electrophysiological and optical imaging experiments on rabbit atrial tissue and ardiomyocytes ex vivo.
The effects of different sex hormones and different hormone concentrations will be investigated both acutely as well as upon chronic hormone pellet treatment.
The ideal candidate :
The applicant should submit a CV (including contacts of two referees) and a one-page motivation letter, highlighting her / his experiences according in above-mentioned points and indicating his / her motivation to join the project.
