The Medical Advisor is part of the Country Medical Affairs Department and serves as the country scientific expert for the Primary Care Therapy Area with focus on Diabetes and will be reporting to the Country Medical Affairs Director.

He or she will lead 1-2 Medical Science Liaisons in the TA (focus on cardiovascular disease). Internal key interactions are with the Brand Leads, Brand & Customer Managers, Customer Solution Managers, Customer Unit Leads, the Customer Representatives and Key Account Managers.

External key interactions are with Scientific Leaders (SLs) as well as with multiple external stakeholders in the field.

An important responsibility will be to translate customer insights into strategic imperatives for respective therapeutic areas in order to achieve our scientific and business goals.

Main activities include but are not limited : General

  • Develop and execute Country Medical Affairs Plan for assigned franchise(s)
  • Budget responsibility (Planning, Tracking and Spending) for respective therapeutic area or products as per guidance by Medical Affairs Director
  • Scientific Leadership

  • Scientific Exchange on a regular basis with defined customers and convey information about the latest development in the assigned indication (e.
  • g. most actual publications)

  • Develop and maintain strong scientific network
  • Develop projects with SLs and other stakeholders to facilitate adoption of best medical practices for physicians, health care institutions and patients
  • Organize and lead local advisory boards and Expert Input Forums
  • Hold balanced and scientific presentations about the disease area, therapies and latest developments in context with assigned products and competitors
  • Provide support to marketing and sales for assigned products
  • Collect customer needs from SLs and provide insights to crossfunctional team
  • Participate at national and international scientific meetings to apply newest knowledge and feed-back to relevant stakeholders
  • Close collaboration with RDMA (Regional Director Medical Affairs) within region on strategic priorities
  • Internal Support

  • Provide scientific input and set strategic direction for respective franchise related Medical Affairs activities, ensuring alignment with global strategy and adherence to all relevant regulations and SOPs
  • Provide scientific input to market access related strategies and activities
  • Facilitate the inclusion of MSD products in hospital formularies and in local therapeutic guidelines as appropriate
  • Lead pre-launch medical activities
  • Medical Information Requests and Medical Legal Review of Promotional material in the assigned TA

  • Respond to medical inquiries from local customers not covered by the medical information group / developed by global or regional
  • DPOC (designated point of contact) process management : Is accountable for DPOC to ensure receipt, classification, and appropriate routing of product inquiries for further processing so as to meet regulatory and business requirements.
  • Assures DPOC database is accurately maintained


  • MD, Pharmacist or life science degree with PhD (MD preferred)
  • 5-7 years of experience within the Biotech / Pharmaceutical industry; preferably work experience in Medical Affairs function or a thorough understanding of this function
  • Strong scientific baseline knowledge in therapeutic areas of interest to the Company, understanding of clinical trials methods, implementation and interpretation of clinical data, sound scientific and clinical judgment, and an eagerness to continue to learn more in assigned therapeutic area
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to function within a team environment
  • Strong, confident and engaging presentation skills
  • A proactive "can do" attitude and passion for the therapeutic areas of interest
  • Strong customer facing, listening, and probing skills
  • Ability to work in a matrix organization
  • Simultaneously handling multiple tasks and working under pressure
  • Corporate culture competencies of Leadership Behaviors, including Business Integrity and Ethics
  • Fluency in German, English and / or French
  • PC use expertise
  • Willingness to travel frequently ( 50%)
