THE ROLE

As part of the stand-up of the new Legal Department for The Wella Company, we are looking for a Junior Compliance Manager, based in Geneva, Switzerland, reporting to the Wella Chief Compliance Officer.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced compliance professional with a strong commercial focus to support a global hair and beauty business on a positive journey of evolution and development.

This role will be a supporting role helping underpin the strategy, design enhancements and implementation of the Company’s Global Compliance Program and working with a team of Regional Lawyers who also will be managing compliance matters.

  • The successful candidate will support our global approach to compliance with the aim of developing a best in class’ structure aligned to the global strategy, business and values of the organization;
  • drawing on compliance and leadership experience combined with a strong business-minded approach. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the advancement of protecting The Wella Company and driving a culture of awareness and compliance throughout the company.

    The Junior Compliance Manager will support the Chief Compliance Officer and the wider Legal Team in developing, implementing and maintaining policies, as well as driving the global compliance program across Wella.

    The successful candidate will be expected to partner with the business and function leads on all compliance activities and initiatives and keep pace with all businesses and functions priorities, identifying and mitigating potential risks.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    The duties of the Junior Compliance Manager will include :

  • Oversight : Support the implementation of the Global Compliance Program under the direction of the Chief Compliance Officer.
  • The activities include partnering with the business and functional leadership teams to create the required compliance culture.

  • Risk Assessment : Partner with the business and functional leadership teams to conduct compliance risk assessments, identify areas of focus and drive the development and implementation of mitigation plans.
  • Written Standards : Create and implement policies and procedures for all risk areas including required controls. Ensure that all standards are communicated regularly to employees.
  • Training and Education : Identify training needs and implement training and education plans, including tracking of completion and effectiveness, with the support of the Chief Compliance Officer and the wider Wella Legal Team.
  • Develop training materials for local live training and / or region-specific on-line training of employees and Third Parties.

    Effectively administer live training.

  • Monitoring and Auditing : Support Internal Audit in conducting monitoring and auditing as required. Implement spot checks, site visits or other monitoring activities as requested.
  • Third Party Management : Drive third party compliance management and initiatives, including implementation of global standards regarding risk review, due diligence, training, contracting and monitoring.
  • Partner with business and functional teams to understand third party strategy and ensure compliance risks are considered and mitigated.

  • Investigations : Conduct and / or assist in compliance-related investigations in accordance with a Global investigation protocol.
  • Ensure consistent and appropriate investigative processes are utilized by other functions responsible for investigations, and provide oversight to ensure consistent disciplinary actions.

    Ensure appropriate communications to employees to reiterate Wella’s no-retaliation policy.

  • Corrective Actions : Identify and implement / oversee the implementation of corrective actions. Track issues and corrective actions to establish targeted training as needed.
  • Advice and Guidance : Provide day to day advice and guidance to business and functional teams on Compliance matters. Coordinate with outside counsel as needed to obtain local legal advice and manage outside counsel activities to ensure appropriate scoping and cost-effectiveness.
  • Provide regular updates and communications to employees on relevant Compliance topics.

  • Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) : Monitor and report status on Compliance KPI’s. Create and implement action plans to address performance gaps as needed.
  • Support the Chief Compliance Officer on all risks-related reporting to management and shareholders.

    Key Requirements :

  • An undergraduate degree from a well-respected institution and, ideally, a further professional qualification.
  • Legal, Auditing and / or Risk Management degree / experience a plus.
  • 5-8 years of experience related to implementing a Compliance program within a business. Previous experience in a highly-regulated industry preferred.
  • A proven track record actively supporting and promoting Compliance within a company and of successfully advising on both strategic and operational compliance issues across an international organization.
  • Prior experience within the Consumer / FMCG industry preferred but other regulated industries will also be considered.
  • Direct experience working in both developed and lesser developed regions and first-hand experience and awareness of the cultural and geopolitical nuances will be essential.
  • Proven ability to support global compliance initiatives and a demonstrable track record of implementing an international compliance program.
  • An ability to articulate and implement understandable, layperson-friendly recommendations for the development and enhancement of the compliance function and framework.
  • Experience of successfully leveraging influencing skills, taking a partnership-orientated approach with colleagues to navigate ethical demands.
