Our Security team works to create and maintain the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers. As a Security Engineering Manager, you'll help your team protect network boundaries, keep computer systems and network devices hardened against attacks and provide security services to protect highly sensitive data like passwords and customer information.

The Detection team handles malicious activity on Google's networks. We perform analyses of threats on our corporate, production, and acquisition environments.

We help Google respond to advanced attackers (APT) and insider threats.

As Security Engineering Manager, you'll help your team innovate and execute the practice of detection, automated systems development, and analyzing and responding to the detected events.

You'll use your technical skills to understand, discuss, design, and prioritize technical trade-offs and implementation work.

In this role, you will lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects to detect information security threats in Google production systems.

You'll engage with software, infrastructure, and security technology and contribute technical expertise and management ability to drive the build out of scalable security mechanisms in one of the most complex environments in the world.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of engineers responsible for intrusion detection and response on Google’s production environment.
  • Inspire and develop talent while providing vision and setting direction for the team. Lead effectively through outcomes rather than tasks.
  • Build the team through growth and recruitment.
  • Collaborate well with partner teams to achieve shared objectives, provide strategic insight, and lead continuous improvement efforts in the security of our platforms.
  • Minimum qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience managing a team of engineering and / or security operations professionals for a distributed organization.
  • Technical experience as an individual contributor security professional.
  • Preferred qualifications :

  • Experience or exposure to information security topics (e.g., threat modeling, detection or prevention mechanisms, breach investigation).
  • Experience operating within cross-functional teams (e.g., Product, Engineering, Networks, Operations, Business Development).
  • Ability to grasp and communicate complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences easily.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a constantly changing environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
