Senior Corporate and Shared Value Partnerships Coordinator

Organizational Setting and Work Relationships

The Senior Corporate and Shared Value Partnerships Coordinator leads the Corporate and Shared Value Partnerships Unit (CSPU) reporting to the Chief of Section (Private Partnerships and Philanthropy), PPH, in Copenhagen.

The Corporate and Shared Value Partnership Unit has staff in Geneva and in Copenhagen and its purpose is to leverage the strengths and resources of businesses on behalf of displaced persons globally.

The Unit directly builds and manages collaborations with high-value partners, mostly multi-national corporations. In addition to securing financial support for UNHCR, the Unit will develop and support new and non-traditional forms of collaboration with the private sector, in line with the Global Compact for Refugees.

It aims to expand partnerships with the private sector beyond fundraising to advocate for and advance refugees rights, to promote refugees economic and financial inclusion, to increase refugees access to and uptake of products and services that they require, to stimulate private sector investment in refugee-hosting areas, to yield financial savings to the organization, and to foster innovation.

Considering the new operational reality resulting from decentralization and regionalization, and the ongoing HQ realignment, delivering on these objectives will entail close coordination and collaboration with other HQ Divisions and Services with interest and role in engaging in and benefitting from such corporate engagement.

Similarly, the Unit will focus on supporting the PSP network, Regional Bureaus and country operations as well as National Association Partners with their corporate engagement strategies, on a needs-based principle.

As part of its workplan, the Unit will assist in monitoring private sector pledges made during the Global Refugee Forum.

Lastly, it plays an oversight and coordination role when it comes to the corporate and shared value engagement streams as outlined in the 2018-2025 Private Partnerships and Philanthropy (PPH) Strategy.

The incumbent will be expected to manage the Corporate and Shared Value partnership unit, including expected to exercise sound authority and decision making in the work of the unit, while ensuring overall coordination of the Unit with the rest of PPH / PSP.

S / he will lead and ensure that Corporate and Shared Value Partnerships are developed and managed in accordance with UNHCR procedures as well as UN and industry good practice.

S / he will pay special attention to ensuring that partnerships are initiated and developed in a proactive and collaborative manner, based on the Organization s established needs and priorities as well as partners interests.

S / he will facilitate the efficient and streamlined sharing of information on these collaborations among internal stakeholders, particularly but not exclusively, the PSP network.

This role will also include being accountable for and directly managing significant partnerships assigned to the team. For this purpose, collaboration with a broad range of stakeholders, in-depth knowledge of UNHCR and its functioning but also extensive experience from managing private sector partnerships are vital to success in this role.

The incumbent must establish superior working relationships internally with key staff across the organization, including the senior management, and externally with private sector counterparts.

  • All UNHCR staff members are accountable to perform their duties as reflected in their job description.     Duties

  • Exercise sound judgement and decision-making authority in the management of the work of the unit, including ensuring priorities are met
  • Establish the Unit as the point of reference for all UNHCR stakeholders seeking information on corporate and shared value partnerships, and as the Bureaux and Division liaison for collaboration with the corporate sector more generally;
  • Income targets set for corporate partnerships are met according to the plan
  • Existing corporate and shared value partnerships needs identified, strategic goals and needs and their impact is monitored against an agreed results framework;
  • High-value or complex collaborations are identified, monitored and supported throughout the operations management cycle to ensure the implementation is a success, and avoid reputational risk to UNHCR.
  • Corporate and shared value partnership proposals to the Private Partnerships Board are reviewed in coordination with PSP Senior Management
  • Lead the development of new partnerships, and ensure existing partnerships are expanded to ensure maximum impact
  • The capacity of the PSP network and other UNHCR operations, when relevant and meaningful, to engage in holistic corporate and shared value partnerships is enhanced, thanks to targeted awareness raising, capacity building and other support efforts
  • Establish and manage a clear strategy and work-plan for the new unit, with objectives, activities and measures of success mapped and shared with the team, and specific roles and responsibilities of the multi-functional team communicated to the broader PPH and PSP networks;
  • Lead the implementation of an effective impact and results framework for corporate and shared value partnerships, including measuring impact and performance consistently across all partnerships for global partnerships directly managed by the unit;
  • Continuously ensure that UNHCR needs are matched with promising partnership opportunities, by industry, by area of interest, and by geography, through regular, structured interaction with Regional Bureaux, Operations and Divisions and other relevant PSP actors;
  • Lead the designing and spearheading of policies / direction for private sector partnerships
  • Lead the development of strategic initiatives focusing on, inter alia, catalysing investment, direct and indirect, in refugee-hosting areas;
  • reducing costs; promoting refugee employment, entrepreneurship, and inclusion in value chains; spurring innovation; raising awareness;
  • advocating for policy change; and helping make available or increasing uptake of products and services that refugees rely on, with a focus on increasing access to renewable energy, connectivity, and financial services;
  • Lead engagement with relevant UNHCR stakeholders involved in corporate and shared value partnerships through the provision of timely advice, guidance and other services, particularly with regard to due diligence, stewardship, budgetary issues, strategy development, field missions, and reporting;
  • as well as through support toward the development of proposals, cases for support and pitches;
  • Lead the benchmarking of UNHCR s corporate and shared value partnerships against other UN and non-profit organizations engaging with the private sector;
  • Clear briefings, talking points and presentations to UNHCR senior staff about corporate and shared value partnerships, as required;

  • Ensure accountabilities for corporate and shared value partnerships are established, and dedicated capacity provided where available or the case made for additional capacity to successfully manage any specific partnerships or projects.
  • Ensure senior management of UNHCR and PSP are kept appraised of corporate and shared value partnerships, with recommendations for solutions as required.

    12 years of relevant work experience in the corporate sector and / or the not-for-profit sector.

  • Demonstrated familiarity with the work of UNHCR and experience in building and managing impactful private sector partnerships on behalf of a UN entity or not-for-profit organization, including financial and non-financial collaboration (inter alia knowledge sharing, in-kind donations, employee giving, campaign development and cause related marketing);
  • or experience managing collaborations or projects with non-profit organizations on behalf of a company, foundation or other philanthropic vehicle.

    Proven experience in strategy development, policy and process development.

    Proven ability to think conceptually and critically, and to find, synthesize and interpret large amounts of information.

    Strong result-oriented and service-oriented attitude.

    Understanding of the complexities of working with an international organization with multiple geographical operational sites.

    Willingness to travel frequently.

    Desirable

    Ability to work with incomplete information and diverse views and opinions.

    Fluency in another UN language is highly desirable.
