Position Summary :
The Director, Accounting, Europe reports to the Executive Director Finance, Europe and will lead the Accounting functions for Seagens’ operations outside of US / Canada.
A critical part of this role will be to build accounting infrastructure, processes and controls to expand Seagens’ footprint to successfully launch TUKYSA and subsequent products in international markets.
An important requirement of this role will be to work closely with business partners and finance team in Bothell (Seattle) to execute financial reporting, compliance, tax, and treasury related matters.
Principal Responsibilities :
Build Finance infrastructure in Europe to launch products and support business operations
Manage external service provider (BDO) to support accounting operations across all Europe affiliates in keeping with service level agreement.
Appropriately plan for and drive transition of key aspects of accounting activities from service provider to internal systems / processes
Collaborate with internal supply chain team, corporate Tax team in Bothell and Europe 3PL partner to establish and manage Order-To-Cash process for Europe distribution channel.
Partner with Corporate Controller, IT and Financial Systems groups to define requirements and implement Oracle solution to support financial transactions and accounting processes in Europe
Work with HR, Legal and GMs to create infrastructure to support employees and operations
Drive excellence in accounting operations to support financial reporting and tax deliverables
Work with GMs in Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, France, Italy and Spain to support key activities evaluate contracts with customers for sale of products and recognize revenues appropriately
Develop financial reporting packages and statutory filings for all Europe entities. Work with Legal to develop materials to support Board meetings
Work closely with Head of Finance Europe, Corporate Controller, corporate accounting team and external service providers to meet monthly / quarterly close deliverables and deadlines, ensure alignment on accounting treatment for contracts and agreements, in particular to support appropriate revenue recognition for Seattle Genetics
Design as well execute SOX procedures in keeping with corporate framework
Partner with corporate Tax to ensure transfer pricing and intercompany agreements are set up appropriately as well VAT filings and recovery are supported
Collaborate with Financial Systems team, Corporate Accounting and IT to drive process improvements in systems (e.g. Oracle, Concur) and processes
Work with Treasurer on banking relationships and currency related matters
Partner closely with Corporate Finance to support capture of financial activities to facilitate efficient and meaningful financial planning and analysis
Lead internal and external audits related to operations outside of US / Canada
Leadership & Communication
Work closely with Europe leaders in Clinical Development Operations, Commercial, Medical Affairs, G&A, Regulatory, Quality and Product Supply on all accounting related matters
Ability to interact confidently with and drive discussions on accounting matters with Seattle Genetics’ European LT, Global Finance LT, and auditors
Mentor and develop European Finance staff in order to achieve department and company goals
Minimum of 10 years experience in a global biopharmaceutical company required.
Strategic Ability : Able to think bigger picture across different functional areas of the business and help arrive at the best decision for the overall organization.
Ability to incorporate multiple perspectives and variables to analyze issues in order to reach an opinion and recommendation on best path forward along with articulation of pros and cons of different available options and proposed recommendations

These skills must be balanced by sound business judgment. Hands-on, with the ability to transition from strategic thinking to tactical execution

Change Leadership : The candidate must be an independent self-starter and a proactive leader with a drive to strive for continuous improvement and consistently challenging the status quo
Financial education required. MBA / CPA / CFA is preferred
