Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Editing Section, the Senior Editor is responsible for the following duties :
Solid writing and analytical abilities with sensitivity to nuance. Ability to spot errors and inconsistencies in a text.

makes tough decisions when necessary. Education A first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status.
Candidates for this position must have passed the United Nations Competitive Examination for English Editors or the combined United Nations Competitive Examination for English Translators / Précis-
writers, Editors, Verbatim Reporters and Copy Preparers / Proofreaders / Production Editors. Work Experience A minimum of five (5) years of experience in editing, including three years of experience in editing within the United Nations common system.
Extensive experience in the editing of human rights documentation is desirable. Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
Fluency in English, which must be the candidate’s main language, and knowledge of at least two other official languages, as tested by one of the above-
mentioned United Nations Language Competitive Examinations, are required. Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include a written assessment, followed by a competency-
based interview. Special Notice Staff members are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General and to assignment by him or her.
In this context, all staff are expected to move periodically to new functions in their careers in accordance with established rules and procedures.
