Johnson & Johnson is recruiting for Sr. Director, Supply Chain Innovation Scouting & Development. Ideally this position will be based in Southern Germany or Northern Switzerland.

Reporting to Vice President SC Innovation & Insights, this role will establish a world class scouting and advanced technologies hub for mainland Europe, that will support the delivery of new technology and innovation capabilities for Johnson and Johnson supply chain.

This role will be deeply connected to other global technology centers (Israel, Ireland, Boston and others). We are looking for a multi-disciplinary, commercially savvy business leader who can help define, build and drive the development of the Advanced Supply Chain Scouting and Innovation hub in Southern Germany (e.

g. Munich). Partnerships with a wide-range of technology companies (e.g. robotics, sensors, novel materials, 3D Printing), universities and consortiums, industry ecosystem benchmarking (e.

g. automotive, pharmaceutical), healthcare systems, venture capital firms, and other non-competitive corporations is key for success experience in the overall start-up ecosystem will be imperative as this leader serves as the gateway to the Johnson and Johnson supply chain innovation funnel.

About J&J’s Supply Chain Innovation Hub Focus in Europe

As part of J&J’s global supply chain network, the European hub will create transformational value for J&J’s businesses through innovation.

The scope will span across technology innovation scouting, development acceleration and demonstration, creating collaborative networks, accessing regional funding initiatives, providing technology integration expertise with focus on the following innovation areas : digital health, IoT & sensors, 3D printing, robotics, advanced materials.

Main locations involved are Stuttgart, Munich, Dresden, Hamburg, Berlin, Dortmund in Germany but also northern Switzerland, Spain Barcelona, France etc.

the linkage to our Ireland innovation tech centers will be critical too.

Role and Responsibilities :

The Senior Director, Supply Chain Innovation Scouting and Development Europe, will focus on Supply Chain Innovation and lead the set up of J&J’s Supply Chain’s innovation epicenter for Europe, act as Supply Chain’s customer innovation solutions & technology’s innovation go to’ person for the co-ordination of all innovation activities across the region, scout for new technologies & innovative customer solutions, build collaborative partner networks with, for example, technology companies, startups, equipment suppliers, healthcare systems and academia and ensure the effective and efficient running of the hub.

Innovation Leadership

  • Prioritize customer & technology innovation opportunities, based on business and customer needs as provided by the Innovation Intake process.
  • Coordinate the development activities in the Innovation hub to drive a portfolio of value driven innovation projects to address the prioritized business & customer needs
  • Explore & scout new sources of innovation across technologies, processes, business models etc.
  • Identify key innovation & technology trends and their implications for healthcare supply chains
  • Implementation of technology horizon scanning and landscaping capabilities
  • Work with other J&J Hubs around the world to leverage the innovation capability
  • Strategy and Execution

  • Collaboratively develop and drive forward a co-ordinated European hub strategy with the other supply chain innovation hubs around the globe to maximize the innovation scouting & development capability for J&J supply chain aimed at addressing future customer and business needs & expectations.
  • Identify the priority technologies & customer facing innovations that will deliver measurable business benefits and accelerate new technology readiness and integrated solutions for deployment.
  • Business Development

  • Build strong innovation & technology partner relationships to create a collaborative partner eco-system to maximize access to all innovation capabilities (tech providers, academia, suppliers etc)
  • Leverage regional funding and tax incentive models & opportunities
  • Operations management

  • General management of day to day innovation hub
  • Coordinate development activities in collaboration with other stakeholders worldwide.
  • Expand relationships with current vendor partners and develop new value-added partnerships
  • Shape and co-ordinate technology training and showcasing to a network of J&J Supply Chain and Sector stakeholders, in conjunction with the other hubs globally focused on supply chain.
  • Travel

  • Most of the travel is within mainland Europe - Germany, Switzerland, Spain, France, in particular. Travel to other international locations will be required at times, including other international innovation Labs, J&J Solution centers, project and partner locations globally.

    Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience within technology innovation (e.g. robotics, logistics, novel materials), R&D, and business development environment
  • Significant experience in Supply Chain
  • International business and inter-cultural experience
  • Industry experience within Healthcare, Pharmaceuticals, Medical Devices, Consumer Products or a related manufacturing engineering related sector
  • Educated to degree level or higher, from an internationally recognized university in a relevant engineering or technology subject
  • Experience in various technologies with demonstrable expertise in at least 2-3 technology areas
  • Track record of technology innovation, ideally with new to world, or Industry 4.0 technologies
  • Previous experience of government funding mechanisms and grant applications is highly desirable
  • Experience of managing a technology center, technology incubator or technology lab, university collaborations and start-up’s will be an advantage
  • Language Proficiency : Fluency in English is required; Fluency in German is an asset.
