The Lead / Senior Medical Director for Roche Innovative Pediatric Drug Development (iPODD) offers the opportunity to play a critical role in expanding our global leadership to increase our impact on the fight to save lives of children with cancer, through drug development driven by strong biological rationale, innovative clinical trials aimed at drug approvals, by pursuing global access and by having patient interest drive our decisions.

Our iPODD team is part of the Roche global late stage clinical development organization for Hemato-Oncology, based in Basel, San Francisco (Genentech) and Welwyn, UK and is a specialized pediatric team with the aim to improve outcomes for children with cancer by developing the Roche oncology portfolio in pediatric oncology using rational, science-driven and regulatory-compliant strategies.

iPODD is currently responsible for the pediatric development activities of 18 anti-cancer drugs from our late stage portfolio designing and executing early and late development (Phase I - II III), based on rational clinical development plans (CDP) with a clear regulatory strategy aimed at product labels and access for children with cancer.

Core responsibilities :

Responsible for the development and implementation of pediatric oncology clinical development plans (CDPs) and trial protocols, including early phase and pivotal trials

Participate and may lead molecule-specific cross-functional global development teams to develop the molecule CDP and set up the clinical trial(s) for 1 or more molecule

Serve on iPODD study management teams as a medical monitor for clinical trials as well as being a primary contributing author for regulatory submissions, including Pediatric Investigational Plans’ in the EU and initial Pediatric Study Plans’ and Proposed Pediatric Study Requests’ in the US

Participate in global filing teams, when appropriate for the molecule program, participation in health authority interactions will be an integral part of all above responsibilities

Contribute and help design our program for MOA-based preclinical molecule prioritization for pediatric development by performing Target Actionability Reviews’ of scientific literature and interpret in silico’ database analyses of target patterns in pediatric clinical series and preclinical Proof-of-Concept testing results in pediatric models

Depending on experience and skills the position can be offered as Lead Medical Director or as Senior Medical Director (responsible for the management of direct reports)

Who are you?

MD, board-certified Pediatric Oncologist with 10 or more years of relevant medical experience

PhD in (translational) tumor biology with experience in preclinical research projects with a track record of peer-reviewed research publications

Participation, contribution and leadership experience in cooperative groups in pediatric oncology

Active experience with clinical trials across Phase I - II - III

Experience working with the principles and techniques of data analysis, interpretation and clinical relevance is required

Experience with assessing preclinical datasets for drug target identification + validation and preclinical molecule proof-of-concept testing is preferred

Academic / teaching background and or experience in pharma or biotech industry is a plus

Excellent project management skills, good interpersonal, verbal communication and influencing skills, works well within teams and is effective in collaborating with others internally and externally
