In Global Discovery Chemistry (GDC) at NIBR in Basel, Switzerland, we are at the core of Novartis’ purpose to improve and extend people's lives and working with us gives you plenty to be passionate about! In close collaboration with our partners we drive analytical and separations technologies forward and develop new methods and approaches to provide innovative solutions.

To meet the changing needs of our drug discovery teams and projects we constantly expand our capabilities and scope. Today we are looking for a highly motivated, passionate junior PhD-level scientist with a strong background in mass spectrometry and complex chromatography to shape the exciting interface between the two disciplines.

You will work alongside other experts in an interdisciplinary environment where impact is key. Our mission is to unleash the power of our people join us with your can-do attitude, your out-of-the-box ideas and :

  • Provide the organization with tailored-to-fit support in the field of chromatography and mass spectrometry to answer key scientific questions of drug discovery projects
  • Acquire project-related knowledge to effectively contribute to cross-functional collaborations with decision-making data
  • Drive the design and implementation of scientific and technological innovations according to the requirements of assigned projects and to further strengthen the group’s technology portfolio
  • Contribute to maintaining state of the art skills, facilities and infrastructure within GDC through the evaluation and implementation of new technologies, techniques, and concepts
  • Develop and implement solutions for data mining and lab automation and together with our IT experts derive strategies for innovative data management approaches across different analytical platforms
  • Introduce and share your knowledge and skills in your specific domains of expertise and demonstrate creativity and resourcefulness in applying new scientific methodologies and techniques
  • Actively participate in internal and external scientific communities through presentations, publications and networkingMinimum requirementsWhat you’ll bring to the team :
  • Ph.D. or equivalent with demonstrated scientific track record in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Physics etc.
  • State-of-the-art know-how in all relevant analytical disciplines (HPLC, SFC, Mass Spectrometry) with emphasis to (chiral) chromatography
  • Solid background and hands-on experience working with qualitative and quantitative LC / MS / MS method development
  • Curious mind-set and cultural agility, a passion to learn, share, contribute, deliver, grow and develop
  • Interest to coach and mentor team members, excellent communication, presentation and collaboration skills
