Scientist Position - Mouse Developmental Biology

The Computational Biology (CoBi) Group (Prof Dagmar Iber, , Twitter) at D-BSSE is recruiting an Experimental Biologist with experience in mouse developmental biology and state-of-the-art imaging techniques to join our small wet lab (2 PhD students, 1 technician, 1 student helper), which complements the computational efforts in the group.

The position is available immediately, and funding is available for up to 6 years.

Project background

The group focuses on image-based modelling and simulation of mouse organogenesis. We use transgenic mouse lines with fluorescent tissue markers to image developing embryonic mouse organs in 2D and 3D cultures with a view to understand the developmental principles that control the growth and differentiation processes.

A state-of-the art imaging centre with access to confocal microscopy and light-sheet microscopy, a single cell facility, and a quantitative genomics facility are available in-house.

Job description

The position will be focused on comparing lung and kidney organoids with embryonic development to define the underlying self-organising principles.

Your profile

The ideal candidate has experience with mouse organ cultures, organoids, stem-cell based tissue engineering approaches, and imaging techniques.

  • Applicants should be enthusiastic to do research at the interphase of developmental and computational biology. The position provides an opportunity to learn about image analysis, bioinformatics, and mathematical modelling;
  • prior knowledge in these fields is not required.
