This position is located in the Programme Support and Management Service at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Geneva.
The incumbent will be under the general supervision of the Chief, Programme Support and Management Services, and the direct supervision of the Chief, Human Resources Section.
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Section, Human Resources, and within delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties :
PROFESSIONALISM : Knowledge of administrative / employment law. Ability to apply legal expertise to analyse a diverse range of issues and problems.
Ability to draft guidance and prepare written advice in a clear and concise manner. Ability to identify key issues in complex situation and to prepare an informed decision.
shows persistence when faced with difficult problems or challenges; remains calm in stressful situations. Takes responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives and ensuring the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work.
demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.
monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary; uses time efficiently.
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in law, public administration, social sciences or related field.
A first-level university degree in the above mentioned fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional legal experience is required
Two years of experience at the international level, preferably in an international public organization, is desirable
Experience with informal resolution and mediation is desirable
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
Extension of the appointment is subject to extension of the mandate and / or the availability of the funds.
