Huntington Ingalls Industries Defense and Federal Services (HII-DFS) is seeking a Tactical Data Link Systems Engineer to support our customer, US Air Forces in Europe (USAFE), with the implementation of a Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) network.
The Tactical Data Link Systems Engineer will work closely with customers and staff in support of USAFE concerning networked command and control communication systems throughout Europe.
Qualified applicants will have a background in communications engineering or computer systems engineering and technical expertise as it relates to military communication and data link systems.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Integration of Communications, Sensors, and Command & Control Elements and documentation of the system hardware / software.
Review joint all-domain command and control concepts, levels of effectiveness, architecture and design.
Develop implementation recommendations, investigate and solve Tactical Communication system performance issues, and generate / review technical papers, calculations, and briefings.
Prepare and present technical briefs to internal management and external customer teams.
Design, develop and deliver leading edge tactical data link functionality for intelligence and sensor dissemination to theater operational forces for tactical execution.
Support the performance, verification and sustainment of fielded Tactical Data Link systems and components.
Participate in formal engineering analysis and the review of performance parameters at the total system and individual component levels.
Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies.
Continuously increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on tasks.
Provide 2nd and 3rd level support.
Liaise with vendors and other tactical data link personnel for problem resolution.
Contribute to a diverse team of technical experts and consultants to conduct technical alternative studies.
15 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 13 years relevant experience with Masters in related field;
10 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 19 years relevant experience.
Experience with building and analyzing Data Link (e.g. Link16, CMF, etc.) messages
Working knowledge of Mil-Standards 6018, 6016, 3011 and 6020.
Familiarity with common Tactical Datalink radios / terminals, to include MIDS, LVT, MIDS JTRS, and JRE, as well as experience with MIL-STD-1553B interfaces.
Engineering knowledge on developing Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and relevant data products to properly document a DoD Command and Control System.
Must have domain knowledge sufficient to assess and document the performance of modern joint command and control systems.
Able to read, interpret, create, and maintain spreadsheets, charts, reports, investigation and test plans, and procedures
Superior knowledge of systems engineering concepts, practices, and procedures. Must have an active TS clearance with SCI eligibility based on a Single Source Background Investigation (SSBI)
10 years of recent specialized experience in command and control systems, Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK), and Tactical Data Links.
Experience presenting design and project information at periodic reviews as well as recommending improvements to existing designs
Be comfortable handling a large amount of classified material
Ability to communicate clearly (written and verbal) to technical and non-technical personnel
Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
A familiarity with programming in Java or C#.
Demonstrated communication skills; both written and oral concerning technical material and explaining these aspects to non-technical customers.
Flexible with proven ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
