Our team in Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) Informatics is part of Roche’s global Research & Early Development Organization.

The mission of our team is the design, development and delivery of innovative integrated scientific informatics solutions and platforms focusing on data capture, analysis, and visualization of chemical, biological and biomedical

data to support scientific decision making in all stages of the drug development processes and finally to deliver new innovative treatments to the patients.

Currently, we are looking for a profiles combining data engineering and processing capabilities to support the Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) Digital Biomarker program.

Our objective is to use digital biomarkers to make our Roche Pharma clinical development programs even more successful.

The program’s focus areas are :

  • Design digital biomarkers : Define ways to capture clinical outcomes using sensor data collected from smartphones and wearables (see )
  • Develop remote patient monitoring workflows and data processing pipeline : Establish processes, software, and infrastructure to handle big data collected from sensors in clinical trials
  • Deploy digital biomarkers to clinical studies : Generate data to validate approaches and support decision making
  • Analyse and interpret sensor data : Identify signals for disease severity and progression in sensor data collected from patients in trials
  • In this position you will :

  • You will help to lead and coordinate development efforts in the Digital Biomarker field across distributed developer teams, both internal and external
  • You will be responsible for modelling and implementing the data processing pipelines and workflows to be scalable on an enterprise level to process a large scale data volumes coming from multiple clinical studies across multiple geographic locations
  • You will be responsible to design, implement and maintain a robust and scalable database storage architecture for our sensor and dBM data including cloud based and hybrid solutions
  • You are a self-motivated, flexible and open team player with a passion for solving complex database modelling and software engineering tasks to join a multicultural team working on innovative approaches in a science-driven industry
  • We are looking for a highly motivated individual who possesses a Bachelor or a Master degree in Computer Science, Medical Informatics or related programs and a strong interest in Pharma and Medicine.

  • Experience in the design and implementation of data processing pipelines and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes is of high priority
  • Advanced experience in data modelling with non-relational (MongoDB) and relational (Oracle or MySQL) databases
  • Hands-on experience in Python programming and the usage of common Python libraries for data analysis (e.g. NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-
  • learn) and data pipelining (e.g. Luigi)

  • Experience with the integration of Cloud platforms like AWS or Microsoft Azure via Microservice API’s would be an desirable additional asset
  • Knowledge of big data analytics and data processing frameworks like Kafka, Spark or Hadoop is a plus
  • Hands-on experience with UNIX and distributed workload management systems (e.g. Slurm, SGE) desirable
  • Strong working knowledge of the dev-ops tools and best coding practices (versioning, TDD, debugging)
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks with a strong focus on delivery
  • Strong experience in technical project management and agile Software development methodologies, and leadership of cross-
  • functional and distributed developer teams
