About the role

We are looking for an ambitious reinsurance professional to join Swiss Re's Engineering underwriting team and take up an exciting underwriting role for reinsurance business.

Key focuses of this role are to develop engineering treaty and facultative reinsurance businesses in the French market and to support other EMEA markets.

You will be part of the Engineering Western and Southern Europe, Middle East & Africa desk and work in a team that is dedicated to France, Belgium and Luxembourg.

Your main responsibilities will be :

  • Underwrite Engineering treaty and facultative business with focus on France. This includes technical and actuarial assessment, wording review and negotiation with the clients for facultative business.
  • Conduct post underwriting activities such as risk surveys, portfolio reserve setting, treaty and facultative accounts servicing and claims supports
  • Source new Engineering business by deepening relationships with insurance companies and brokers. Position Swiss Re as client's preferred partner for engineering business, including but not limited to decennial insurance, construction and infrastructure business, parametric covers, and renewable energy.
  • Strengthen Swiss Re leading position in the French engineering reinsurance market based on company strategy.
  • Provide competent and fast service to our clients, with advice, special acceptances, trainings and workshops.
  • Drive product innovation by partnering with clients and crafting client-specific solutions.
  • Increase Swiss Re's external visibility on Engineering topics via market events, articles and social networks.
  • Further responsibilities are :

  • Collaborate with other units to jointly produce new business opportunities for Swiss Re in the space of Transactions and Solutions
  • Play an active role in the Swiss Re Global Engineering community in terms of knowledge sharing, special projects and / or research topics.
  • Contribute to the implementation of strategic initiatives for the Special Lines business.

    We are a large international Global Engineering team with presence in 14 offices around the world. Our task is to conduct risk assessments and develop reinsurance solutions for our insurance clients.

    Our team has a wide range of different technical and scientific backgrounds and experiences complemented by a strong team spirit.

    In addition, our team develops new and creative solutions for our clients that address the newest technological developments and how these shape our client's risk profiles.

    About you

  • University degree in a scientific or commercial field. Engineering or Actuarial Science degree is a plus
  • 3+ years of experience in the (re)insurance industry, preferably in treaty underwriting. Experience in client markets and other lines of business is of interest too.
  • Strong analytical skills and good proficiency with common IT applications
  • High interest and ability to learn about technical topics
  • Great teammate with high client orientation
  • Strong communication skills, proficient in English, French and other languages are a plus
  • Willingness to travel moderately
  • Ability to work under pressure and to take decisions in ambiguous situations
