Within Roche’s Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED), Neuroscience & Rare Diseases represents a major focus area where we are committed to realizing our long-term vision of changing lives of patients with severe brain disorders.

Our preclinical research and early clinical development activities center around large and rare indications within the four major pillars of neurodevelopmental disorders, movement disorders, dementias, and multiple sclerosis.

To achieve our goals, Roche pRED Neuroscience & Rare Diseases is currently undergoing a major and exciting recruitment effort for a large number of new positions including a Project Team Leader within the Department of Portfolio Development.

All positions are based in Basel, Switzerland.The PositionThe Project Team Leader acts as the CEO of a project or projects, assuming full accountability for the delivery of assigned project(s) (strategy & budget), maximising its value for pRED and Roche within the programme strategic context as agreed with the Early Strategic Portfolio Committee.

In addition, the Project Team Leader represents the best interests of the project and Roche by providing high quality strategic leadership to early global cross-functional disease area project teams within pRED.

To that end, the Project Team Leader defines, leads, motivates, challenges and organizes the global project team collectively and individually to define and execute a cutting-edge project strategy in accordance with its goals and budget.

The position is leading the project team in defining a clear vision, strategy, objectives and overarching plan, ensuring the incorporation of options according to the principles of time, cost and risk and addresses technical, regulatory, business and operational needs.

Last, the Project Team Leader ensures high standards of performance of the team and its individual members and provides critical, cross-functional input into disease area (and pRED ) strategy.

Key responsibilitiesTeam Leadership (Project Team)Specifically accountable for the identification, prioritization and facilitation of all key decisions associated with assigned projects at the project team levelAccountable for ensuring that all team members and functions are aligned behind the objectives of the team and inspires team to achieve challenging goalsCoaches / mentors the project team members in achieving project deliverables Creates a positive team environment that instills trust and ensures clear transparent communications and gets the team behind the overall goal / vision for the projectInstills sense of urgency and a strong can-do attitude in team membersProvides input to team member performance, including sub-teams Leads team to ensure scenario development including alternative development options (cost, time, risk / benefit) for strategic decision-makingEffectively manages and deploys budget and resources to efficiently move the project forward.

Ensures effective, clear decision-making within the teamLeads co-development projects balancing the needs of Roche and partners in collaborationsEncourages creative, innovative or unconventional ideas and ensures that these are exploited by the team, as appropriateStrategy and executionSets clear direction for the global early development strategy from CCS to POC, assuring deliverables are met for project transition to lifecycle.

Views the project in the broader portfolio context and provides strategic options with the team for management consideration.

Trouble-shooting responsibility resolves critical issues that impact the projectLeads the team to identify and manage key risks to the project.

Leads the team to develop and implement innovative and feasible de-risking strategiesChallenges the team and organisation to ensure that the best possible performance and molecule outcome is achieved.

Mobilizes Roche global network to support the project through regions, sites, functional and local managementEnables a seamless transition to Late Development by ensuring top quality input into the development strategy from colleagues outside pRED, including clinical development, commercial, regulatory and safety colleaguesCommunication, deliverables and key interfacesLeads team to create and document an integrated early research and development project planOwns the target product profile for the asset.

Presents plans to the relevant decision boards (e.g. DTAPC, ESPC), obtains approval and implements them with excellence according to decisions and escalates should issues not be resolved at team levelManages and communicates financial and strategic value to appropriate decision bodyCommunicates critical data and project team recommendations and decisions to key committees (e.

g. DTAPC, ESPC, DSC)Secure agreement on transition plan for life cycle transition of project in direct collaboration with DTA, discovery and pRED heads, stakeholders outside pRED, and governance committees.

  • Serves as the interface between the DTA and partner functions on project-related issues; builds effective cross-functional working relationshipsServes as the primary contact between project teams in co-development collaborations and assumes responsibility for successfully building high performing joint teamsQualificationsPhD, MD, PharmD or equivalent experienceProven experience as successful, decisive leader in strategic multi-functional environment Experience of challenging senior management in relation to science, data and resources Very strong influence management skills;
  • able to impact decisions positively in a matrix environmentAt least 8-10 years in the pharmaceutical industry with a broad cross-functional experience in the pharmaceutical industry, especially at early stages Demonstration of successful movement in the organization towards positions of greater impact and responsibilityAre you ready to apply?
