In addition, the Senior role will provide a bridge between the Buying department and the Senior Buying Manager. It will help drive consistency and best practice through training, communication and co-
ordination of activities in order to create a centre of buying excellence inline with brand and company objectives.

Responsible for identifying and setting a standard of excellence and best practice for buyers to strive for
Planning, Building and maintaining a targeted brand offer, with a strong focus on anticipating and meeting the needs of the VANS customer.
Creating exciting product ranges, considering multiple key attributes for range optimisation and high customer experience for all channels
Operates an effective and timely product sign off process, in line with the critical path and planning cycle
Responsible for ensuring that the product reflects the brand strategy and that the range development is without gaps or duplication
Ensures that the brand standards in both quality and value are maintained, and that the range is benchmarked against both Brand and high street competitors in terms of fashionability, Seasonality, pricing
Responsibility for developing and maintaining an in-depth, customer focused knowledge of varying markets and trends across all DTC channels
Establishes key relationships with Product Merchandising team, in order to actively influence EMEA and Global assortments to fit the needs of DTC, communicating key product direction and trends
Ensures that the correct level of newness / fashionability is present, and that volume lines are maximised and moved on’ at the appropriate time
Works with Buyers to continually analyse market position, identifying risks / opportunities and to develop solutions and / or make appropriate recommendations
Drives regular departmental product reviews, ensuring coordination across department in terms of strategy, themes, looks and colour palettes

Managing and flexing OTB to hit the set targets whilst remaining opportunistic and driving the best possible return for the OTB
Critical Path management- adhering to set deadlines at all times, including timely feed in of commercial information, cross functionally and the monitoring of deliveries
Partners with DTC planning to analyse In-season departmental performance preparing Sales plans / Forecasts for the season and providing analysis of daily / weekly sales to drive out sound commercial trading actions for profit maximisation cross channel.
Keeping up to date with competitor activity and constantly reviewing the product strategy, you will understand the market place, target customer and key competitors using consumer insights to ensure VANS remains ahead at all times
Works with Retail & Digital Marketing, (VM Merchandising & eComm Merchandising) to define strategies, guidelines, online & In store layouts, windows and promotional initiatives aligning across channel.
Driving the departmental promotional plan for the season
Oversee In season Re-order & Sample Management processes ensuring high level of timely accuracy
Responsible for arranging and presenting to various audiences for conferences / key meetings as required
Attend commercial & trading meetings as required
Analyses’ trading patterns and takes responsibility for communicating findings to the team, in order to react to unforeseen sales reactions
Provides a view on current key trade activity that could potentially affect the brand and develops solutions as appropriate
Identifies promotional and / or marketing opportunities for the brand and liaises with relevant parties to progress
Works in conjunction with the Planning team to monitor and control trade, in order to ensure stock turn, margin targets and profit levels are achieved
Reacts to trade on an on-going basis to maximise sales and limit risk to the business
Meet agreed deadlines for the Visual Merchandising calendar
Leading, managing and motivating team to achieve all Company and divisional KPI’s
Coaching, training and developing team through the effective use of all available company tools, resources and the PDP process
Support Senior Buying Manager in developing robust succession plans across the entire Buying function
Acting as an ambassador for the company values by demonstrating positive leadership behaviours that reflect the company culture
Demonstrating effective communication across all areas of the business i.e. Product Merchandising, Marketing, VM, Buying, Planning, Retail Operations eComm, PSS, Retail Analysts, IT, Customer Service, in order to develop and maintain strong working relationships at all levels
Undertake regular review of departmental trading activities
Support Senior Buying Manager in the Collaboration with the other Heads of Function to deliver standards of best practice and consistency across the Buying, Planning & Merchandising teams
Work closely with Senior Buying Manager, Human Resources and Training to manage the effective recruitment, selection and induction of new team members within the Buying team
Regularly monitors and reviews levels of individual team performance through the effective use of annual competency reviews, Personal Development Plans (PDP’s) and competency frameworks to drive out training, coaching and development needs for all colleagues within the team
Support Senior Buying Manager in the on-going review of Buying systems and processes to ensure their relevance, effectiveness and flexibility to be able to respond to the changing needs of the business and to shape best in class within the division and across the business
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and / or abilities required for the individual to be successful in this position.
Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Senior Buyer or Buying Manager. Experience of Footwear essential, knowledge of all product categories is advantageous.
Awareness of current and future trends, knowledge of brands appropriate to target market and understanding movement in retail landscape
Fluent in English. Other languages will be a plus
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products, above all Excel.
Strong business and financial analysis skills as well as retail math knowledge, including elements of mark up, margin, open to buy, GMROI
Develops and maintains the technical / digital skills required for own role
Willing to travel 40% of the time
Proven experience of managing and developing a team.
