Varian currently has an opportunity for a Site Technical Lead within our Proton Therapy business unit at our clinical client site in Manchester, UK.
In this key role, the Technical Lead will provide highly visible customer support through on-site servicing of proton therapy equipment and ancillary devices, as well as overseeing any necessary diagnoses, troubleshooting and repair of complex equipment and systems.
Manage technical aspects of servicing at customer site for Varian’s Proton Therapy products.
Provide highly visible customer support through the performance of proton therapy equipment and ancillary devices, as well as overseeing any necessary diagnoses, troubleshooting, service, and repair of complex equipment and systems.
Act as company liaison with customer on administrative and technical matters for assigned tasks.
Maintain technical documentation regarding operating characteristics, design factors, technical performance and development of products to improve service efficiency.
Participate in the goal to achieve highest equipment uptime, fast resolutions and lasting customer satisfaction.
May coordinate other expert company resources required to assist with service or upgrade activities.
May act as deputy to the local site manager in case of absence.
Maintain a high degree of professional knowledge and safety consciousness according to Varian guidelines in order to perform activities under the safest working conditions.
Skills and Experience Required :
Associate Degree or equivalent related experience.
Experience in two or more of the following areas, preferably within medical device environment :
Particle accelerators (cyclotrons);
Diagnostic imaging equipment (X-ray tubes / generators);
Power supplies (high current / voltage);
Vacuum systems (roughing pumps, TMPs);
Heavy rotating mechanical equipment;
Beam optics and steering of high energy proton beam.
Ability to communicate effectively with various levels of employees and customers both verbally and in writing.
Strong organizational skills, self-disciplined and the ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
Willingness to work shift work pattern environment.
Work Environment :
Job operates in the hospital environment.
Work in environments where devices producing one or more of the following may be in use : high levels of radiation, high magnetic fields, high voltages, compressed and liquefied gases, and radioactive materials.
Strict adherence to corporate and site safety procedures is mandatory.
Frequently in contact with electrical equipment.
May work from ladders or scaffolding, on occasion.
May lift, carry, push, or pull up to 22 kilograms.
Occasionally twist and crawl. Frequently stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and extended reach.
Use of personal protective equipment may be required including, but not limited to, radiation monitoring badge, safety glasses, hard hat, hard toed shoes, and medical rubber gloves.
