GENERAL SUMMARY :

Responsible for leading the Stabio Innovation team in Apparel and Ascentials advanced development for Napapijri.

Providing new environmentally preferred materials, unique polymers, yarns, fabrics and finishes, value add performance characteristics and unique production methods which create a forward thinking strategy that positions these brands as environmental product leaders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Oversee all materials development and commercialization for the Innovation Center based in Stabio. Work with key material vendors with a focus on textiles, polymers, yarns, fabrics, thermal, non woven, eco-
  • leather, technical material constructions i.e. new technical weaving and technical knitting materials. Developing and commercializing advanced material that is in line with the strategic vision of the brand.

    Fueling the innovation pipeline with new performance materials that deliver unique customer experiences on performance / delivery / cost

  • Set up procedures for the team and increase material and project efficiency by providing tracking and monitoring tools and ensuring partnership with Innovation Project Manager
  • Meet with brand developers and designers to align on product requirements and research in the areas of materials, processes, and environmentally important developments and trends.
  • Apply strong analytical skills to solve problems and provide innovative and creative ways to move projects forward. Lead material team to deliver with a sense of urgency the scope of project, the material objectives within the agreed timelines and within budget

  • Identify external companies both within and outside the textile industry, research facilities and chemical suppliers that will enable us to leverage new technologies and advancements with a goal of mutually beneficial development, strong performance, lower environmental footprint, reduced complexity at a competitive cost.
  • Providing regular updates, education and partnership throughout the project to innovation project manager and inline development teams

  • Identify international and domestic material vendors. Travel to production sites to research new ideas, identify partnerships and ensure the proper implementation and processing of materials once in commercialized hand off phase.
  • Manage team to ensure relationship and standards with testing facilities are maintained and managing the team to ensure materials pass VF material standards.
  • Work with design / development / sourcing teams to ensure design intent is understood and that the material is used effectively in the final product.

    Partnering with design, raw material and PD on new ideas, new ways to use materials and reach a performance level that is in line with customer needs.

    Reducing complexity and increasing flexibility in materials sourcing and development

  • Create project roadmaps, clear deliverables, reporting cadences and shared access management tools. Organize activities and prioritize resources to achieve transparent results on critical goals.
  • Maintaining and creating a sense of urgency on creating a balanced mix of short term / medium term and long term product flows

  • Share information in ways that promote, clarify and keep people informed while creating a vision for the technology being presented.
  • Drive to development timings with a clear understanding of the development cycle and overarching brand strategy

  • Build on existing expertise in all areas of materials with a focus on best in class. Learn and apply environmental knowledge to material selection.
  • Think through detailed information, situations or problems to identify core opportunities and issues and their implications.

    Report on team projects, opportunities and risks with a problem solving approach

  • Communicate material properties, appropriateness, and cost to design, development and brand inline materials teams. Identify materials that meet physical standards, hit appropriate cost target.
  • JOB REQUIREMENTS : Experience :

    Experience :

  • 5+ years of related experience : Materials Science / Resource Management, Engineering and production
  • 5 years or like industry experience (Garment, Automotive, etc.)
  • Educational :

  • Degree in Material Science will be a preference and / or Industrial, Mechanical, Production Engineering
  • Strong technical knowledge of fibers, yarns, knit & woven material, leather, polymers, compounds, foams, dyeing, finishing, wash, print & pattern and material manufacturing
  • Strong technical knowledge of material physical properties, material testing procedures, and production techniques for textiles, leather, and polymers.
  • Skills :

  • Ability to bridge between creative and technical
  • Exceptional communication skills, including strong presentation skills
  • Analytical skills for the evaluation of material, polymer and chemical data
  • Strong interpersonal skills, network and proven ability to interface successfully with external partners.
  • Experience managing multiple projects, competing resources, budget & deadlines
  • Experience communicating and collaborating with global partners
  • Languages :

  • Strong knowledge of English is required, other Languages will be an asset
  • Approximately 30% travel is required for this job.
