The Associate Director (AD) will be the European site head for strategic leadership of therapeutic and disease-based biomarker and companion diagnostic activities in support of a large number of oncology molecules in late-

stage clinical development and life cycle management. This position has particular focus on developing biomarker strategies and plans that are tailored to the European and Chinese translational medicine field and on ensuring successful execution of drug-

diagnostic co-development in Europe and China. The incumbent is expected to collaborate closely with the Companion Diagnostics Development group within OBD as well with the clinical development and medical affairs group.

The AD will develop and lead the medical affairs biomarker strategies in Europe. The individual must also be viewed as a strong scientific and strategic leader, one who can readily bridge between a cutting edge translation medicine environment and a fast-

paced clinical organization. The successful candidate is expected to drive the publication of biomarker data in high quality scientific, technical or medical journals, to represent the department and programs at external meetings, to be a key representative to our investigators, and to particularly promote collaborative efforts to forward the biomarker sciences field in general.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and represent Oncology Biomarker Development in Europe and RoW
  • Build and lead OBD group in Basel and Shanghai
  • Provide exceptional scientific leadership in translational medicine to your peers within OBD and to the organization in general, with a particular focus on Europe
  • Develop and lead biomarker strategies and plans across all franchises in support of therapeutic and PHC development and medical affairs in Europe and RoW
  • Be an active member of the OBD Leadership Team, contributing to the continuing strategic development of our department and our people
  • Represent OBD externally through presentations at key National / International meetings, interactions with our key investigators
  • Drive high quality publications in high impact scientific, technical or medical journals
  • You bring the following experience and qualifications :

  • PhD, PhD / MD degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g. pathology, molecular biology, cell signaling, cancer genetics, cancer biology, molecular oncology)
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in clinical drug development, including advanced understanding of critical development functions and medical affairs
  • Experience in, and / or knowledge of, companion diagnostic development is preferred
  • Significant experience and ability to drive to effective decisions and enable execution on programs
  • Outstanding presentation and communication skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and to work well in a matrix environment
  • Significant national and international travel (>
