    We are searching for a motivated, strategic thinking Senior Engineer Scheduling & Costs, to work in the Mid / Long Term Planning team at our Mount Isa Copper Operation.

    The Mount Isa Copper Operation, one of the world’s largest underground copper mines, includes a large sub-level open stoping operation (the deepest mine in the country) and a geologically complex satellite sub-level cave mine.

    We are currently renewing our focus on strategic / tactical planning to set the operation up for a long and successful future.

    Several potential future mining projects are currently being studied, such as polymetallic stoping and additional cave areas, and we need to integrate these into our forward plan.

    The Senior Engineer will work with stakeholders across the value chain to provide input into Life of Asset, Budget and rolling 12-month schedules, a diverse remit that will allow you to provide significant input into setting the path forward for the operation.

    You will ensure that the Life of Asset strategy integrates through into the successful delivery of the business plan by managing design, schedule and operational risks.

    Typically, your role responsibilities will include :

  • Lead and develop a team of two engineers who are there to assist you achieve your goals.
  • The on time delivery of the base case Life of Asset schedule to the Resource Development Department.
  • Own and manage the annual Budget schedule / mine planning process (0 4 years) including assumptions alignment, task updates with latest design information, scenario generation, operational and financial engagement, documentation and communication.
  • Each month working with the Execution Scheduling team (0-3 months) to present an achievable rolling 12-month schedule, aligned with Budget, that contains the latest design work and task sequence information from the Medium and Short Term Planning teams.
  • Update and maintain the XERAS cost model to allow the value of schedule scenarios across all time horizons to be determined.
  • Calibrate / reconcile the model using historic information and benchmark cost data across other sites within the business as required for forward scenarios.

  • Bringing people together by encouraging input from key stakeholders into all work completed, and leading the way with a strong understanding of our vision and business strategy.
  • Task sequencing and engagement with operational teams, regular underground inspections.
  • Working with processing / metallurgy teams as part of our integrated business model to maximise value.
  • About You :

    We are looking for a high performing engineer with a solid scheduling or mid / long term planning foundation. You will have significant experience working at underground hard rock operations, including short term planning or operational exposure, supported by a relevant qualification in Mining Engineering.

    Ideally, your experience will include exposure to multiple underground mining methods including caving. Strong scheduling experience supported by knowledge of mine design (including supporting infrastructure) and financial modelling will allow you to achieve success in this role, and thorough hands on experience with Deswik CAD, SCHED and / or RPMGlobal’s XERAS would be advantageous.

    You will have the desire to constructively challenge established norms and re-define our processes, systems and team culture.

    Your ability to demonstrate strong communication (capable of dealing with stakeholders from the Chief Mining Officer through to underground supervisors), problem solving and analytical skills will be key to executing this role well.
