Position Purpose & Summary

Cargill forms trading strategies based on our analysis of Supply and Demand. The better the quality of our analysis is, the better our trading game plans will be.

Global supply analysis for oilseeds and oils is a well-developed capability within the company by means of industry association reports, in-

house experience of traders, our information flow from commercial activities and the work of our crop analyst teams. Most of this supply analysis is done by teams in the CASC enterprise.

In the new set up of the Oils and Seeds business, we have a combined portfolio of supply and demand to monitor on the European side.

We are looking to take our EU fundamental analysis to a higher level. In this role will be key to provide data and input to our new computer assisted trading project team.

This is new approach that will be supported by this analyst role.

As a senior analyst, this position works directly with CASC EMEA and GEOS commodity trading desks, to translate commercial insights and internal research into comprehensive supply and demand analytics for European vegetable oils and biodiesel markets.

The role will require interaction with diverse teams, leadership in communication, and strong influence in trading decisions.

The role will also be part of our Global Trading Analytics team, interacting with other regional analysts and our global analyst.

Principal Accountabilities

50% Build and actively maintain best in class EU vegetable oils and biodiesel S&D.

  • Actively interface with EU biodiesel and vegoils trading desks to insure vegoils / biodiesel related inputs are heard and understood.
  • Generate trade / position ideas to maximize value of S&D analytics. Interpret policy related impacts on the EU biodiesel S&D.
  • Liase with other biofuel analysts and teams to ensure an aligned view around policy / policy impacts and generate potential scenarios.
  • Clearly and concisely communicate potential impacts with trading desks. Build a strong data process for maintaining large volume of information / data around the various complexities of the EU policy mandates.
  • Implement innovative ideas to efficiently translate a complex system into a simple / clear message.

    25% Collect and update fundamental data across the EU for the Oils and seeds market, relevant to the business parameters.

    Maintain overview on MacBeth updates. Adjust input as required. Ongoing dialogue commercial team to ensure output is aligned with cash markets in the regions where official data is lacking.

    10% Actively participate in strategic studies around alternative energy potential, Cargill’s LTM, and other key business initiatives.

    15% Find, prepare and update data sets as requested to Computer modelling team

  • Propose modelling ideas. Deploy software to analyze order flow data to identify seasonality, trends and other patterns.
  • Work closely with and support GEOS Trading analyst as required.

  • Scheduling regular Analysis meeting for the commercial teams and preparing PP presentation for internal and external needs
  • Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Ag Economics, Business, Finance, or related discipline.
  • Must have knowledge and intense curiosity about commodity markets, disruptive events, government interventions, and global affairs.
  • Mastery of computing and statistics.
  • Ability to actively partner / collaborate with global teams to build a trading strategy.
  • Very important is candidate must be able to translate complex topics into a short and clear message.
  • 3-5 years of experience in biofuels market analysis
  • Fundamental understanding of agriculture markets / systems and experience constructing models of economic / market behavior
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Commercial perspective
  • Knowledge of the European market and Industry associations
  • Preferred
