In order to extend our local Business Development department we are looking for an experienced and motivated :

Business Development, Marketing and Communications Executive

The role has a strong emphasis on a proactive and innovative approach to drive results, with a particular focus on the following core areas :

Marketing

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of marketing collateral, incl. social media and website, in line with brand guidelines.
  • Create and implement marketing activities, incl. digital, to support the promotion of the office, industry and practice groups and lawyers' profiles.
  • Update Firm information and relevant capability statements with respect to the office, including those appearing on the Firm’s external website.
  • Responsible for obtaining and verifying that information is readily available for use in Directory submissions, marketing materials, CVs and proposals.
  • PR & Communications

  • Actively work to enhance and cultivate relationships with the media, particularly within top tier business press and leading trade publications, and facilitate media interviews with leadership.
  • Taking ownership for all Baker McKenzie Switzerland social media channels by ensuring regular updates, content development, social media campaigns etc
  • Prepare spokespeople and practice leaders for media interviews and speaking engagements by creating detailed briefing books including key messages and talking points and providing refresher media training as appropriate, facilitating and coordinating more in-depth media training for spokespeople when required.
  • Manage external PR agency resources developing relationships with key media to secure and grow media coverage both online and offline.
  • Co-ordinate, produce and deliver client and staff email newsletters.
  • Brand Management

  • Ensure the Firm's brand and that of the Swiss offices is maintained, and implement the various activities supporting the brand of the Firm and that of the Swiss offices.
  • Firm Profiling and Events

  • Run effective marketing campaigns which deliver the Firm’s key messages, USPs and brand collateral to the target channels and industry sectors in line with the overall sales strategy, including developing internal and external messaging, roll-out and evaluation.
  • Work with lawyers, the EMEA BDMC team, industry and practice groups, event team and others to develop, organize, coordinate and execute seminars, receptions and special events taking place in the local market.
  • Oversee maintenance of the office's client mailing list.
  • External Engagements

  • Evaluate key sponsorships and networking opportunities with professional organizations and associations in the local market.
  • Coordinate all deliverables associated with offices-identified key sponsorships.
  • In addition to the main responsibilities, the jobholder is supposed to support the team in the following areas :

    Business Development & Client Relationship Management

  • Support the Swiss offices by working independently and with the entire Switzerland BDMC team to identify new business opportunities.
  • Work with the industry and practice groups to develop cross selling opportunities, and to implement strategies to capture those opportunities.
  • Work with the EMEA BDMC team to support strategic client development projects, including the Firm's global client programs and regional client targeting initiatives.
  • Provide overall support for activities that focus on target clients in the local market and integrates these where possible with EMEA and Firm programs.
  • Conduct client research, including research on Firm specific information such as billings, matters and relevant timekeepers.
  • Proposals

  • Full support on pitches and selling opportunities, in close collaboration with the entire Swiss BDMC team and other BDMC units within the Firm.
  • This might include the development of specific key messages, collecting relevant content such as industry and practice area descriptions and matter list, production of pitch documentation, development of innovative fee proposals, dry-running proposal presentations and gathering feedback as appropriate.

    Budget Management

  • Develop business cases for budget requests based on business planning and be aware of the budget available from both Regional and Global sources.
  • Monitor annual budget expenditures for the Swiss offices and seek funding from global and regional sources where appropriate.

    Qualification and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Business Administration majoring in Marketing & Communications, or related field.
  • At least 3 years related professional experience in a similar role (Marketing & Communications), preferably within the legal industry.
  • Well-developed and sophisticated organization, communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to relate to and gain the confidence of people at all levels within an organization, as well as an ability to build strong relationships and work in a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, both in German and English.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate competing priorities.
  • Strong judgment and ability to suggest well-reasoned independent recommendations and ideas.
  • A good, developed practical understanding of marketing and communications.
  • Self-motivated and independent, able to work with a minimum of supervision
  • Comfortable working across multiple cultures and time zones in a matrix organization.
  • High degree of attention to detail.
  • High level of energy and persistence, and understanding of the importance of delivering exceptional customer service to internal and external clients.
  • Strategic awareness of business and commercial issues.
  • Very strong technical skills, including Adobe Creative Suite.
  • High affinity to social media and any technology developments in the marketing and communication field.
  • Know how
