The Director of Patient Advocacy will provide strategic leadership for US Pharma, focused on the Ophthalmology franchise, by introducing the patient perspective and partnering to drive patient and caregiver engagement in all aspects of the product life cycle.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES Strategic Partnering Build, maintain, and grow strategic relationships with leading patient organizations focused in Ophthalmology health.

Direct activities based on business priorities and create mutually beneficial relationships. Engage new types of stakeholders beyond traditional patient organizations to compliment strategy and showcase function’s value to business.

Represent Novartis at key advocacy and professional organization meetings and events focusing on areas of responsibility.

Patient Perspective Act as the organization’s ambassador for the patient perspective and strategy. Drive and embed a patient-

centric mindset and engagement in franchise, medical and access activities by incorporating patient insights, advising on patient needs, and participating in leadership forums such as through franchise leadership team and launch product teams.

Patient Engagement Serve as an active participant and counsel on patient engagement activities focused on all parts of compound lifecycle relevant to country priority.

Work closely with franchise, medical, and development teams.Functional Leadership Strategically engage in internal and external activities that demonstrate the value of patient advocacy and engagement.

Incudes strong alignment with team, global, country, and enterprise. Lead and collaborate on innovative activities and programs with internal functional partners and external organizations to further the function’s mission.

Budget accountability- Strategically fund programs and activities through grants and sponsorships that support patient engagement, disease state education, policy issues, that are aligned with franchise and business.

Cross-functional Collaboration Serve as key advisor to internal stakeholders through strong, collaborative relationships.

Ensure cross-functional collaboration with medical, brand, market access, government affairs, health policy and other key stakeholders locally to optimally manage relationships to ensure alignment and effective execution of patient advocacy strategy.

Innovation Within the therapeutic area, create and implement innovative, new initiatives, programming and tools to expand the reach and impact of the voice of the patients, customers, and caregiver communities in alignment with key business objectives.

Minimum requirements

EDUCATIONBachelor degree is required. Advanced degree is preferred.EXPERIENCE

  • 10+ years of experience in patient advocacy, alliance management, public affairs or similar function / experience with a demonstrated track record of success
  • Ability to effectively lead and work closely with cross functional teams
  • Strong project and process management skills with the ability to work under tight time constraints and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strategic thinking and tactical execution
  • Patient acumen understanding of patient needs and expectations
  • Business acumen - demonstrated experience in making excellent business decisions
  • Strong matrix management and influencing skills to manage complex, multiple issues and projects
  • Relationship management demonstrated ability to build trust in stakeholders and influence decision-making.TRAVEL : As needed; approx. 30%
