Preparation of classrooms and workshops for use by staff and pupils, ensuring a safe and tidy working environment.
Preparation of materials and tools for use by teachers and students.
Instruct staff and students on the safe use of equipment and materials, including electrical equipment and machinery.
Demonstrate, advise and assist in practical activities.
Assist in using and demonstrating to students, computer operated equipment including CAD / CAMs.
Operate machinery which students should not use (Laser cutter).
Maintenance and repair of equipment and workspace, including displays.
Purchase resources as agreed with teaching staff in accordance with budget. Placing of orders as required.
Responsible for safe storage of equipment & materials; disposal of hazardous materials, in accordance with relevant regulations and procedures.
Maintain stock records.
Responsible for petty cash expenditure.
Assist in the organisation and preparation of displays for events.
Ensure compliance of all safety regulations.
Appropriate safety training in working with abrasive and cutting machines.
Experience in the use of a variety of hand tools, hand-held power tools and machines used in the shaping of resistant materials.
Experience in the use of a wide variety of manufacturing techniques, procedures and finishes in the working of resistant materials.
Knowledge of the applications and working properties of a wide variety of resistant materials including wood, metal, plastics and composites.
Appreciation of the design methods as well as making procedures.
Good communication skills with students, teachers, suppliers and stockists.
Organised approach to workshop and stock management.
Flexibility to work with teachers in the development of practical parts of project curriculum.
Previous experience in schools advantageous.
Terms and conditions
The initial contract is for two years and is renewable. The generous salary and range of benefits will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate, with the overall package reflecting the importance of the position.
