The (Associate / Senior) Director of Cell Therapies is responsible for leading an interdisciplinary team performing R&D in support of Vector BioPharma’s cell therapy portfolio.

The team leader is responsible for planning and conducting scientific research, developing and leading his / her own team, and analyzing, interpreting and communicating scientific results under the directives of the senior management.

The team leader will focus on developing and advancing Vector BioPharma’s gene delivery platform with a focus on applications in cell therapy, particularly in the delivery of CAR-T via gene therapy approaches.

The ideal candidate will have advanced expertise in the fields of CAR-T, T cell biology, and gene therapy, and be familiar with humanized mouse models in order to coordinate preclinical experiments with the preclinical team leader and with external CROs.

The team leader must possess excellent verbal and written scientific English communication skills and have experience managing cross-functional collaborations within an organization and with external partners.

He / she must have up-to-date knowledge of pertinent literature in the field of cell therapy, cancer immunotherapy, gene therapy and biotechnology at large.


  • Leads a team of 2-8 research associates and scientists as direct reports on-site.
  • Manages and contributes to all duties related to scientific research conducted in the laboratory, including experimental study design, planning, execution, analysis, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Participates as a subject matter expert (SME) on Vector BioPharma’s leadership team in weekly meetings.
  • Organizes and moderates team meetings for direct reports and is responsible for the collection and curation of scientific data for presentation to upper management.
  • Responsible for problem-solving and the development of innovative and pragmatic solutions to scientific and technical challenges encountered by research associates and scientists.
  • Manages the generation of new experimental procedures and assays, and the writing of technical reports and SOPs.
  • Coordinates or conducts hiring, training and support of research associates and scientists.
  • Manages multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Good communication and support internally (i.e., with team and senior management) and externally (i.e., with CROs, partners and collaborators).
  • Fosters an inclusive and supportive environment and promotes career development of direct reports.

  • PhD in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related fields with 5 or more years of post-graduate experience working in the fields of gene / cell therapy, cancer immunotherapy, or related fields, or M.
  • S. with 15 years or more relevant experience are also welcomed to apply.

  • At least 2 years of experience as a line manager of scientists with two or more direct reports.
  • Practical experience with construction, small-scale production and use of viral vectors (including lentivirus and / or adenovirus), engineering T cells, development of T cell assays, advanced flow cytometry / FACS, molecular biology techniques (ELISA, WB), and similar laboratory work.
  • Proficiency (e.g., C1 level) in both written and spoken English.
  • Must be highly collaborative, able to work in a fast-growing and highly diverse international team, and thrive in a start-up environment.
  • Excellent scientific communication and presentation skills.
  • Good computer skills required (MS Office, Apple hardware). Experience with electronic lab notebook (ELN), molecular biology software, data analysis software, or other laboratory software(s) a plus.
