JOB DESCRIPTION : Abbott Established Pharmaceutical Division (EPD) is hiring for its Global Pharma Headquarter in Basel aTrademark CounselThis position provides global trademark advice for Abbott’s Established Pharmaceuticals Trademark Group headquartered in Basel and with further team members based in Latin America and India.
reviews and negotiates contractual provisions impacting the company’s trademarks. The ideal candidate will be an experienced attorney familiar with the generic pharmaceutical business who demonstrates intellectual flexibility and a solid business acumen, judgment and thoughtful, sensitive and persuasive interpersonal skills.
Core Job Responsibilities : Responsible for the management of the global trademark portfolio for key global therapeutic areas of EPD.
Trademark clearance, filing, prosecution and enforcement, with the support of a team of experienced paralegals. Negotiation of trademark related agreements with third parties (co-existence, settlement agreements, etc.
Trademark, copyrights, domain names and other brand-related IP advice to the global business in Basel as well as to local clients in the Emerging Markets business unit.
Collaboration with Trademark Counsel in LatAm and India on for global portfolio matters in their region.Functional trademark support for complex transactions, including due diligence and contractual work in close collaboration with the Licensing & Acquisitions (L&A) team and Abbott’s Divisional and Regional Legal & IP teams.
Work closely with the marketing, regulatory and other senior management business teams as well as external counsels and the rest of Abbott’s global trademark team.
Manage and drive the relationship with external counsels involved in the prosecution or enforcement cases for the portfolio, including cost control.
Functionally lead the paralegals allocated to the therapeutic areas in question for the daily management of the portfolio and other related tasks.
Minimum Education & Experience : Law degree combined with 5+ years of trademark experience, in-house or in a law firm.strong knowledge of trademark law and prosecution in an international context, in particular in Emerging Markets.
Experience in managing trademark clearance, prosecution and enforcement at global level and particularly in Emerging Markets.
Experience in due diligence and contracting for licensing and acquisition projects.Excellent team player, with superior inter-personal, verbal and written communication skills and ability to functionally lead trademark professionals.
Ability to exercise sound commercial and legal judgment, ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and to set his / her own work priorities and meet required work deadlines.
Ability to work in a diverse, international team. Pharmaceutical or life science industry experience is a plus.Fluency in reading and writing English.
Russian and / or Spanish a plus.Discretion, independent judgment and critical thinking skills; detail oriented with excellent writing and organizational skills.
Able to identify relevant legal issues and apply legal principles to provide strategic direction to internal clients and stakeholders.
