Under the supervision of the Chief of Unit or Security Lieutenant, the incumbent :

A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in police or military service is required.
Experience in the security services of the United Nations system or other international organizations is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the UN secretariat. For the posts advertised, fluency in English or French and knowledge of the other language is required.
Knowledge of another official United Nations language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish) is desirable.
Written entrance examination for security and safety officers. Evaluation of qualified applicants may include a technical assessment exercise, which may be taken prior to the security and safety officers test, to be followed by a competency-based interview.
Candidates will be required to pass a physical fitness test.

Vacancies at G1-G4 levels are open to both internal and external candidates, including staff members on temporary appointments.
However, priority consideration will be given to existing serving staff members. New external candidates will only be considered when a serving staff member holding a Permanent, Continuing, Fixed-Term or Temporary Appointment at the time of application cannot be identified.
Staff members are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General, who may assign them to
any task or function in the organization. In this context, all staff are expected to move periodically to new functions during their careers in accordance with established rules and procedures.
Internal and external candidates with the required qualifications must pass the written entrance test for United Nations security and safety staff.
An invitation to sit the test will be sent by e-mail to candidates who meet the required qualifications.
Physical condition : must be in excellent physical and mental shape. The selected candidates are subject to satisfactory medical clearance that includes a psychological test.

The term sexual harassment means any unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature that might reasonably be expected or be perceived to cause offence or humiliation, when such conduct interferes with work, is made a condition of employment or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment, and when the gravity of the conduct warrants the termination of the perpetrator’s working relationship.
Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
