Post-doc in Integrated Photonics
The O ptical N anomaterial L aboratory at the Physics Department of ETH Zurich is looking for a Post-doc in Integrated Photonics.
Optical spectroscopy is one of the most powerful tools to analyse chemical compositions of gases and other substances. Laser spectroscopy in its many forms is routinely used to monitor for example methane in the environment and carbon dioxide in sensitive areas.
With the advancement of integrated optics, optical detection methods can fulfil the increasing demand for accurate, precise and sensitive measurements in a small footprint and cost-effective sensor.
This research project aims to fabricate miniature optoelectronic devices from lithium niobate thin films. Most current flat photonic structures are passive, here the goal is to create multifunctional active devices that can be actively tuned without changing the hardware design.
The project involves the design, modelling, the fabrication of optoelectronic devices by top-down methods, the optical characterization using custom-built setups, and the development of photonic devices with nonlinear materials for sensing applications.
The successful candidate should be highly motivated and creative, and have a background in experimental optoelectronics, integrated optics, or nanophotonics.
Nanofabrication skills are not necessary, but a strong team spirit is important to collaborate and achieve the common goals.
She / he should be interested in working at the interface of nanotechnology, sensing and integrated optics. Furthermore, the ideal knowledges needed for this project are in experimental optics, nanophotonics, electro-optics, integrated optics, and simulations.
The preferred starting dates for this position is between Mai 2021 and September 2021 for up to 3 years.
