The Position

This position is located in Computer-Aided Drug Design (CADD), a department within Small Molecule research, where the computer-aided discovery of chemical starting points and further optimization towards clinical candidates is the primary focus.

To ensure excellence in drug design, we push the scientific boundaries in key areas of CADD, implement and democratize new computational tools, and advocate a digital mindset across the organization.

Job Mission

We are offering a unique opportunity for a machine learning scientist to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of scientists and contribute machine learning solutions to many project teams across the research organizations.

Researchers will primarily work on the deep learning subfield of machine learning with a focus on methods that incorporate heterogeneous small-molecule data and (graph / geometric / spatial) structure representations, but should be broadly interested in machine learning methods that can help drive and sharpen the research questions we study.

Your Impact

Develop cutting-edge machine learning solutions for the prediction of small-molecule data and the de-novo generation of molecules, with focus on applications to drug discovery, design, and development.

Help build and scale machine learning techniques to massive datasets, advance the scientific understanding, and aid in the deployment of novel machine learning algorithms.

Collaborate closely with internal and external cross-functional teams of chemists, biologists and computational scientists across pRED and gRED to solve complex problems in early drug discovery.

Contribute to and drive publications in scientific journals and machine learning conferences, and present results at internal and external scientific meetings.

Your PostDoc or PhD experience in the quantitative fields (e.g. Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics) or in the life sciences (e.

g. Chemistry, Drug Discovery) with strong focus on AI methods for drug discovery enables you to directly impact drug discovery projects by implementing state-of-the-art methods that aid small molecule portfolio projects.

You are fluent in Python and demonstrated experience with modern Python frameworks for deep learning (e.g. PyTorch) and are keen to build novel unconventional models.

You demonstrate interest in problems across chemistry and biology as applied to the discovery and development of treatments for disease.

You are fluent in English and have strong oral and written communication skills and have a record of scientific leadership and experience, as evidenced by at least one high-impact first author publication in a scientific journal, or equivalent.
