The Legal Department is responsible for the provision of legal services to the Firm worldwide, and is organized by Legal Entity and Practice Groups that conform to the organization of the Firm’s lines of business and corporate staff areas.

This structure encourages legal teams to communicate legal and regulatory changes to the businesses and staff areas and for the lines of business and staff areas to communicate business developments that have legal or regulatory implications to the legal teams in a timely manner.

Our Team

The Legal Department’s mission is to provide a legal & regulatory support to the Wealth Management Business. In Geneva, the Swiss Legal Department currently employs 11 Swiss qualified lawyers.

The Swiss Legal Department is part of the EMEA Wealth Management Legal team, with lawyers based in the United Kingdom and other EU jurisdictions in which

Responsibilities

  • credit and documentation specialists, with a primary focus on credit matters;
  • in particular review, draft and negotiate contractual documentation, e.g. credit facilities, pledge agreements, guarantees, real estate mortgages, yacht / plane financing agreements, art loans;
  • Provide advice on maintaining and managing an effective legal risk control system;
  • Advise the Business in the context of new business initiatives and implementation of new legal and regulatory requirements in relation to credit related matters;
  • Participate in various risk / control initiatives that affect the business;
  • Work closely with

  • implementation of policy, process and procedural changes to ensure compliance therewith;
  • Work on various global projects covering Switzerland in liaison with colleagues in other offices;
  • Summarize and report on new legal requirements and changes to existing Swiss laws and regulations;
  • Provide day-to-day ad hoc legal advice and guidance in relation to clients’ questions and issues;
  • Attend internal and external meetings and conferences;
  • Instruct and liaise with external counsel, as required, including review and analyse legal opinions as well as litigation and court proceedings;
  • In the context of corporate governance requirements, attend various committee meetings.

    Qualifications

    The candidate must be a Swiss law qualified attorney-at-law.

  • Swiss Bar
  • Professional post-qualifying experience of at least 2 years gained in a top-tier law firm or in house in the context of contract law;
  • previous experience in credit matters is a plus;
  • Strong drafting, negotiation and analytical skills;
  • Fluent in English and Italian, French and / or other languages being an asset.
