For the Systems Behaviour Group, in the Laboratory for Reactor Physics and Thermal-hydraulics we are looking for a

Scientist (f / m)

System and CFD Analysis and Methods Development

Your tasks

  • Research and development in the field of nuclear systems behaviour with a focus on best-estimate multi-scale thermal-hydraulics computational methodologies for Light Water Reactor LWR safety analyses
  • Systems code model development, maintenance, testing and validation
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD model development, testing and validation
  • Research towards eventual establishment of coupled multi-scale CFD / system code simulation methodologies
  • Scientific and expert support on reactor safety analyses for operational transients, design basis and beyond design basis accidets with an emphasis on pressurized water reactors
  • Presentation of research results in the form of peer-reviewed publications, conference participations and preparation of technical reports
  • Contribution to education and teaching activities including supervision of master and doctoral theses

    Skills / Qualifications

    Your profile

    We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in, and good working knowledge of single and two-phase fluid dynamics and heat transfer.

    You have a university degree in Nuclear or Mechanical Engineering, Physics and / or Applied Mathematics with the doctorate or equivalent experience.

    You have a good mix of experience using both nuclear reactor systems codes, in particular TRACE, and CFD codes, in particular OpenFOAM, for modelling nuclear reactor operation and transients.

    Ideally, you also have a solid background in computational modelling, preferably including numerical methods development, parallel computing and programming experience with C++, FORTRAN and scripting languages (Matlab, Python, Perl, VBA, etc.

    Experience with CAD and solid modelling software SolidWorks) is beneficial. You are a team player who can clearly communicate new ideas and effectively exchange information.

    The ability to work independently on long-term research projects, to ensure good quality and comprehensive analyses and reporting is paramount for this position.

    You are fluent in spoken and written English. Basic knowledge of German would be an additional asset.
