PhD position in GIScience
The Geographic Information Visualization and Analysis (GIVA) group at the University of Zurich invites applications for a PhD position with the MapOnTap project, led by group leader Dr.
Tumasch Reichenbacher. This project is embedded in in the context of the University of Zurich's Digital Society Initiative (DSI).
At the intersection of GIScience and digitalisation the project aims to study when, where and how mobile citizens use geographic information displays (GIDs) in varying mobile contexts, and to inform the design of efficient, effective and user-centred location-based services.
We seek a highly self-motivated researcher with a strong research-oriented background and motivation for fundamental research who will work efficiently and effectively on her / his PhD project involving behaviour sensing in urban spaces.
The PhD position has thus a strong methodological focus on spatial analytics for studying the impact of digitalisation on urban mobility behaviour and on mobile geographic information usage in smart, data-driven cities and requires a strong interest in attaining a deeper understanding of geographic research questions.
A MSc degree (including a completed MSc thesis) in Geography, GIScience, Cognitive Science, Computer Data Science and / or well-established experience in GIScience, geographic information visualization, spatial cognition, and empirical behavioural research with human participants in outdoor studies.
Demonstrated abilities in the collection and storage of spacetime data in databases, and further interest in the analyses of human-smart phone interactions and related space-time data sets are essential.
Excellent written and spoken English communication skills are mandatory. A strong background in quantitative data analysis, including statistics (R), and programming (Python) would be an asset.
