Scientist (f / m)

System and Subchannel Analysis and Validation

Your tasks

  • Research and development in the field of nuclear systems behaviour with a focus on best-estimate multiscale thermalhydraulics computational methodologies for LWR safety analyses
  • Scientific and expert support on reactor safety analyses with emphasis on pressurized water reactors
  • Thermalhydraulic systems code model development, testing, validation and maintenance
  • Subchannel code model development, testing, validation and maintenance
  • Research and development of methods for improved model validation
  • Presentation of research results in the form of peer-reviewed publications, conference participations and preparation of technical reports
  • Contribution to education and teaching activities including supervision of master and PhD theses

    Skills / Qualifications

    Your profile

    We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in nuclear reactor safety analysis, and a good working knowledge of single and two-phase fluid dynamics and heat transfer.

    You have a university degree in Nuclear or Mechanical Engineering, Physics and / or Applied Mathematics with doctorate or equivalent experience.

    You have experience in conservative and best-estimate deterministic safety analysis using nuclear thermalhydraulics systems codes for design-basis and beyond-design basis transients.

    You ideally also have experience using subchannel simulation codes. You have a good working knowledge of data science and statistical methodologies, including validation, regression and uncertainty quantification.

    Ideally, you also have a solid background in computational modelling along with programming experience in FORTRAN and scripting languages (Matlab, Python, Perl, VBA, etc.

    You are able to work independently on long-term research projects, ensuring good quality and comprehensive analysis and reporting.

    You are fluent in spoken and written English and, ideally, also have some basic knowledge of German.
