Optical engineer in experimental quantum computing with trapped ions80%-100%, Zurich, temporary The newly founded Quantum Technology Lab at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) seeks an optical engineer for the construction of a quantum computer based on trapped atomic ions.
The candidate will be involved in the development of complex optical systems including imaging, light modulation, and beam-delivery to detect and control the quantum states of individual atomic ions, including testing of quantum algorithms.
The result will be a scalable control of ion-qubits via optical pulses enabling this area of quantum computing to access systems of hundreds of qubits.
The team at PSI will closely collaborate with the TIQI group at ETH Zurich, which conducts state of the art experimental research in quantum information science and has a successful track record in developing and operating quantum computing systems.
The strong synergies between the experience and infrastructure at ETH and the novel approach at PSI will benefit both efforts.
